Starting your journey in the distinctive art nouveau town of Ålesund, renowned for its picturesque harbour and ornamental architecture, we begin a week long journey walking and exploring the spectacular coastline, fjords and islands of this region.

Cruise highlights include a couple of days in the magnificent Hjørundford
with its towering peaks rising to 5,000 ft above sea level; a visit to a traditional Norwegian mountain farm, a day at the island of Runde, one of the biggest cliff nesting sites in Norway, boasting some of the most extensive varieties of sea bird species in Scandanavia; a cruise around the coastline of the Heroy Municipality with its charming fishing villages, including the island of Giske where many vikings originated from, and then on to Alness for a tour around its iconic lighthouse before returning to explore the historical town of Ålesund.

We try to remain as flexible as possible to meet our guests wishes. Guides can be arranged for those wishing more challenging and technical routes. Day 1

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Guests join the boat in Ålesund on Saturday afternoon. Ålesund is a charming fishing town which was completely rebuilt in an ‘Art Nouveau’ style after the great fire of 1904. There is a picturesque fishing port famous for ‘klippfisk’, a Norwegian speciality of dried and salted cod. Setting out into the Fjord, the Skipper will choose a scenic and peaceful anchorage in the archipelago for the first night anchorage. Guests will enjoy their first dinner on board with a menu of fresh seafood bought from the local fishing boats that day.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Day 2

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]We cruise through the Hjorundfjord, one of Norway’s largest and most scenic fjords, which is surrounded by the spectacular Sunnmore Alps, which offer exceptional walking. One of the most famous hikes is Saksa (1073m). Saska means ‘scissors’ in Norwegian reflecting the shape of the two peaks. A 4-hour hike up the gentler side of the mountain offers fantastic views down the Hjorundfjord and the surrounding mountains.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Day 3

We moor at a floating, wooden pier in Saebo surrounded by traditional turf-roofed cottages with the opportunity to go ashore and explore the area, which offers a wide choice of walks. Saebo has a famous salmon river, Bondalselva, and an unusual water’s edge hotel.

Day 4

Today we tackle Mollabladet which involves a stunning hike of around 3 hours of easy climbing. From the top guests experience the Hjordfjord from the other side and get views over to Saksa and the Sunnmore Alps behind. Back on board, we cruise through to the northern archipelago where we anchor in a tranquil and scenic location. The scenery changes dramatically here from the high alpine peaks of the Sunnmore Alps to the gentle, open coastal island scenery.

Day 5

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Heading up to the Sandoy area to the island of Haroy, we go ashore to walk to Haroyburet, the highest point on Sandoy. From the summit you get a panoramic view over the whole area down to Ålesund in the south and over to Bud, a charming fishing village, in the north as the beautiful archipelago of Haroy with its numerous islets and reefs.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Day 6

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Guests aboard can choose from several stopover options

Oteroya is an island west of Molde where the mountains rise in spectacular fashion from the ocean. There is a wonderful choice of hiking opportunities, but our favourite route is the Rorsethornet, which is a fairly easy hike of around 4 hours . There are plenty of scenic spots to stop for photos and the summit gives one of the most stunning views in the area. The anchorage offers fantastic sunsets and skies over the ocean and the mountains.

The Island of Ona is home to Norway’s southernmost traditional fishing village with a permanent population of only 25 residents. A walk to the Ona lighthouse on Onakalven, the highest point on the island provides a marvellous view of the ocean and the mainland coastline. A small bridge connects Ona to the island of Husøya where there is a picturesque small chapel as well as a beautiful sandy beach. This is the perfect location for an evening summer BBQ on the old pier by the traditional Norwegian fishing huts.

Time ashore exploring the historic town of Molde offers fascinating visits to museums and a spot of souvenir shopping. Molde was known as ‘the Nice of the North’ by the German emperors because of its unique setting and and superb view of over 222 mountain peaks from all over the city. An important harbour, Molde was a target by the Nazis in World War 2. A walk to the Royal Birch, where King Haakon and Crown Prince Olav sheltered from the German occupying forces is well worth it. The adjacent tranquil Peace Gardens were built to reflect the ongoing fight for freedom and peace.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row”][vc_column][rev_slider_vc alias=”hiking”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1447884276914{background-color: #f8f8f8 !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1447928304720{padding-bottom: -10px !important;}”]
