Converted to a very high standard, she sleeps 10 in a combination of double and twin berths each with their own ensuite bathroom and original features. All of the cabins either served as the original officers’ quarters or munitions stores. This is an opportunity to experience a piece of Swedish Naval History.

There can be no better way to experience Norway’s stunning coastline, than aboard this unique and elegantly converted wooden naval ship. Read full details about our beautiful vessel and her recent refit here, Gåssten.

A Taste of the Trip

Day One

Depart for Hjorundfjord

Guests arrive on board HMS Gåssten from 3pm.

Once settled into cabins we head off towards Hjorundfjord with canapés and drinks served under way. We arrive in Sagafjord and tie up to the pier at this small village to meet our guides and discuss the plan for the week over dinner.

Day Two

0 m

This tour is a steep ski at the mouth of Hjorundfjord.

It takes 6-8 hours, and although challenging, is simply stunning from start to finish. The distinctive needle top lies to the right of the Mohns and Rander summits. The view from Bladet is considered one of the finest in Norwegian ski touring, and was voted one of the top 5 Norwegian ski tours by the Mountain Guide Association.

Day Three

0 m

This is a one-way ski tour over the mountains on the eastern side of Hjorundfjord and can certainly be considered as a ‘big day’ in the mountains.

Today will take between 7 and 9 hours, as you travel deep into the heart of the Sunmøre Alpine Range. Slogan is one of the most revered summits in the area. The pyramid shape of Slogan, which is visible from the Fjord below, makes it one of the areas most memorable and distinctive mountains.

Day Four

0 m

Today is another one-way ski tour but this time on the western flank of the Fjord.

A slightly shorter day of 6-8 hours but still challenging. This is another tour in the top 5, Mountain Guide Association’s list, and the views from the top offer another breathtaking view of Hjorundfjord below and the magnificent Sunmøre Alps.

Day Five

0 m

Although the peak is lower than previous days, and the tour shorter at 5-7 hours, today offers a fantastic steep ski opportunity.

The peak has a distinctive bowl facing to the North and is a powder playground for those looking for big, gravity fed, smiles. Today is considered one of the best days of the trip.

Day Six

Our final day of touring takes us on a one-way traverse from Sykkvsfjord to Hjorundfjord.

Today will take between 7-10 hours and at the end of a long day in the mountains, you will be greeted by Gåssten lying at anchor next to the local pub. With tired legs and an energised soul, you can enjoy refreshments in the pub and share stories of your adventures during the week, followed by dinner on board.

Day Seven

This morning we must pack kit and make our way back home to Ålesund, weaving through through the islands and inlets on our way.

It is the last opportunity to take in the views of this special part of the world.

The above itinerary is subject to weather conditions and the condition of the snowpack. Our guides will have final say on any ski touring for the day and because of this the tour itinerary is subject to change.
