HMS Gåssten – your chalet on the sea

February, March & April are our main Ski Touring months in Lofoten and HMS Gåssten is your chalet on the sea.  The sunlight lingers and snow is plentiful.
The area is famous for its exceptional mountain peaks and there are a vast number of natural pistes, offering opportunities for all abilities. Most of our climbs reach 700 – 1000 meters of altitude and the descent unusually ends by skiing down a stunning slope onto a wide, snow covered, sandy beach. Many of the most spectacular places are accessible only by boat.  We anchor in the bay below and take the tender to shore where you disembark with your skins on to start your ascent.
Ski touring in Lofoten is a truly unique experience.  Taking in the panoramic views of this wild, dramatic landscape from one of the summits and carving down to the shoreline should be on every skier’s and snowboarder’s bucket list.  At the end of a long day, recharge in one of the idyllic, secluded saunas and hot tubs.
We only use IFMGA certified mountain guides.  With the ever-changing weather, winds and tides, the experience and expert local knowledge of our guides and captain is invaluable as we move around the archipelago, utilising the forecasts and tides to find the ultimate mountain for that day’s adventure.
Here are a few our favourite ski tour mountains in Lofoten:
 Torskmannen (755 m) – 3-4 hours, Småtindan / Varden (662 m) – 3- 4 hours, Rundtinden / Rundfjellet (803 m) – 4-5 hours, Geitgaljartinden (1085 m)  – not for the faint hearted, 6 hours and crampons, ice axe may be required.
